So, it’s Movember time, and I have a grown fabulous moustache again.
Movember is an amazing charity promoting and raising awareness of men’s health issues, including mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
Men will die on average 4.5 years earlier than women., and for reasons that are largely preventable. This means that it doesn’t have to be that way: we can all take action to live healthier, happier and longer lives.
Here are 5 things that we can all do:
Stay connected. Catching up and spending time with friends is good for you. Make time and check in with them regularly.
You don’t have to be an expert, but being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be an enormous help and sometimes even lifesaving.
At 50, you should talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and whether it’s the right time for you to have a PSA test. If there is a history of prostate cancer in your family, then you should have this conversation at 45
Get to know what’s normal for your testicles. Check them regularly, and if something doesn’t feel right, then go and see your doctor.
Get active and do some more exercise. If you don’t like working out, then find something else to do that makes you feel good. Walking, cycling, swimming, or anything else that adds activity to your day are all good.
