At Cathedral Dental, our hand-picked, highly-skilled, friendly team can help restore a damaged tooth with the use of a filling.

What is a filling?

We use fillings to repair and restore a tooth that has developed a hole or cavity due to disease, damage, decay, or injury. As a proudly amalgam-free practice, we use only the most modern and cutting-edge materials available in this treatment, ensuring that our patients’ smiles are restored to full function in a natural, aesthetically pleasing style.

How do I know if I need a filling?

With regular check-ups and dental examinations with us here at Cathedral Dental, we may well be able to diagnose the need for a filling before you’re even aware there’s a problem.

In some cases, however, you may first experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Increased sensitivity
  • Pain when chewing or biting down

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What are fillings made of?

As mentioned, we do not use amalgam fillings at Cathedral Dental. These are the traditional metal-appearing fillings that leave behind a slivery-looking finish in the mouth. Instead, we only use the most modern and bio-compatible materials available such as composite resin. This is a highly durable material that is bonded to the tooth, leaving it stronger and more resistant to further decay. They are also white in appearance, making sure your smile is left looking even better than ever.

What is the treatment like?

This is a fairly standard treatment, and our skilled, welcoming team will help you feel relaxed and comfortable throughout. Fillings can usually be applied in just one appointment, during which we’ll first administer a local anaesthetic so you don’t feel anything.

The decayed parts of the tooth will then be removed before we thoroughly clean it and the surrounding area. If applying a composite filling, we’ll first apply a gel so the filling adheres to the tooth before setting it in place with a special curing light. You’ll then be able to leave the practice with a fully restored tooth and a much happier smile.
